Post-operative physical limitations, combined with drainage and pain management, can make cooking after breast cancer surgery seem impossible. But with a little preparation, you can make it easier to use your kitchen and nourish your body.

Make sure you can access everything

After breast cancer surgery with reconstruction, you should not raise your arm higher than shoulder height. So, keep your kitchen ready by taking down the necessary items like plates, glasses, and nonperishables from high shelves and placing them on the counter where they can be easily reached.

Get groceries or prepared meals delivered

Whether it’s driving to the store, navigating crowded aisles, or lifting heavy items, you’ll definitely do it. do not have I would like to go grocery shopping during my recovery. If you’re an Amazon Prime member, you can have groceries delivered to your home. Depending on where you live, there are also grocery delivery services like Instacart, FreshDirect, and Target Shipt.

Similarly, you can reduce the burden of cooking by having pre-cooked meals delivered to you. Ask a friend to bring you a prepared meal. You can use Google Sheets or create an account on MealTrain.com to sign up for time slots. Please be sure to include any dietary restrictions, preferences, or other instructions. Stocking your freezer with homemade meals in advance can also help reduce stress after surgery.

You can also order fully prepared meals (rather than meal kits, which require meal prep and cooking) from a variety of subscription services and have them delivered to your home. Some grocery delivery services also offer prepared meal options.
