Somatic vibration involves simple movements that release unnecessary stress from the body. Learn about the benefits of somatic shakes and how to do them.

Whether you are a working professional or a housewife, let’s agree that difficulties in daily life can have a negative impact on our mental health. Troublesome emotions can get buried deep within us. And all that stress can leave us in a constant state of anxiety and panic. Sometimes we put on a strong face and move forward. However, sometimes they fail. But our bodies keep score. We all feel unprocessed emotions and trauma trapped in our bodies from time to time, whether it’s a clenched jaw or a lump in our stomach that forms from unprocessed grief. Emotions can become toxic if they don’t have a constructive outlet. Did you know that even something as simple as somatic concussion can help release excess cortisol from your body while increasing focus? Fortunately, our bodies can release that stress through a cathartic release. Let’s dive into the benefits of somatic vibration for overall well-being.

What is somatic vibration?

Somatic shaking is a technique or therapy that releases excess stress from the body and helps restore regulation of the body and nervous system. This will help you feel more focused, decisive, and relaxed. The idea is to incorporate movement into meditation. The concept of shaking your body as a form of meditation serves as a powerful tool for transformation and healing. Shaking your body can help you learn the art of letting go, explains meditation facilitator and spiritual coach Anand Kabir.

When we are extremely sad or stressed, our bodies produce stress hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol. Left unchecked, these chemicals can wreak havoc on our physical and mental health. Cathartic exercises such as somatic concussion act as a pressure valve to release excess stress chemicals. This helps calm down the activation of fight-or-flight activity in the nervous system.

How to do a somatic shake?

This stress-relieving exercise involves shaking your body to stimulate your muscles and joints, focusing on your breathing, and keeping a calm smile to release stress and overthinking. Basic movements of somatic vibration include twisting, bending, jumping, and shaking. These all help you feel the flow of energy in your body, increasing your sense of relaxation and calm.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to make sure shaking your body is effective.

  1. Choose a quiet and comfortable environment where you can move freely without distractions. Wear loose, comfortable clothing.
  2. Warm up as you would before every workout. Start with gentle movements such as light stretching, walking, and rocking.
  3. During somatic concussion, you can choose to sit or stand. When standing, place your feet hip-width apart, knees slightly bent, and arms at your sides. Feel the connection between your feet and the ground. Take a few deep breaths, focusing on the process of inhaling and exhaling.
  4. Start by gently shaking your hands and wrists. Gradually spread the tremor down your arms, shoulders, and torso. Shake your legs and make sure the movement is transmitted throughout your body. Be careful not to force it. It’s natural and you need to let it go.
  5. Pay attention to your breathing when shaking off stress. Continue to take deep breaths throughout the process. Breathe in deeply through your nose and exhale through your mouth. This plays a role in helping to relieve tension.
  6. After 5-15 minutes (or when you feel ready), begin to slow down the shaking. Once the movements become calm, gradually come to a standstill.
  7. Once the shaking has stopped, wait a little while. In meditation mode, you can stand or sit quietly for a few minutes. Perhaps you will experience a feeling of calm.

Benefits of somatic vibration for relaxing the mind

Somatic vibrations are part of a broader somatic practice that helps people reconnect with their bodies and foster feelings of calm, while at the same time developing the ability to process highly distressing emotions. Mental benefits include:

1. Helps with mindfulness and grounding

Working with somatic vibrations can help ground you, bring your body back, and bring your mind back to the present moment. Shaking also triggers the release of endorphins, which are painkillers that give your body a sense of pleasure. These good hormones reduce anxiety and depression while promoting a sense of well-being. It helps you let go of stressful thoughts and allows you to experience the benefits of physical movement.

The effects of somatic vibration extend beyond meditation. It’s as if the shaking allows people to shake off mental and emotional clutter and create space for mindfulness, clarity and peace, the expert added.

2. Helps deal with unprocessed emotions

Physical therapy, which involves shaking the body, is based on the principle that unprocessed emotions, trauma, and stress become trapped within our bodies. A combination of breathing techniques, body awareness, and movement can help with trauma recovery and emotional healing. Simply put, conscious shaking helps shake up stuck emotions in the body and helps restore neurochemical balance.

Somatic vibrations are not only important for physical fitness, but they can also help heal emotional wounds and improve overall well-being. Trembling provides emotional resilience to process trauma, increases a sense of safety and grounding through rigorous and spontaneous movement, and promotes a more relaxed and balanced state.

3. Easily enter into meditation

People have a hard time meditating because they have a quick mind, which makes meditation difficult. However, after shaking, people tend to fall into a state of calm and inner calm. Experts explain that energy that once felt stuck or blocked begins to flow freely, leaving people feeling energized and refocused.
