The ‘Black Adam’ star gave fans a glimpse of how he builds piston-like legs.

There may be few performers in Hollywood who are as dedicated to their figure as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The movie star has a drive to maintain strength and conditioning, and while most of Johnson’s roles require a high degree of physical ability, a quick perusal of Johnson’s Instagram will show you that he puts in more than just the gym.

On November 2, 2022, Johnson posted a clip on his Instagram of himself engaging in a grueling leg workout consisting of five “monster sets” and a “killer finisher.” No doubt it’s challenging at first glance, but for men who are dedicated to training, this routine is probably just a walk in the park.

According to the caption of Johnson’s post, he completed every set of movements in the workout “back-to-back with no breaks in between” before starting the next set, as a type of circuit or superset. (He did a total of five sets of each movement.) Here’s Johnson’s complete leg workout overview. Numbers for each exercise are not provided.

  • hack squat — 5 sets
  • chain lunge — 5 sets
  • dumbbell sumo squat — 5 sets

As for the difficult closer Johnson alluded to, he added a little spice to his 100-pound dumbbell sumo squat. The actor’s objective was to perform a dumbbell sumo squat while leaning slightly forward, without letting the dumbbells touch the floor, using a 3-second negative (descending phase) and a 1-second pause at the bottom. Additionally, Johnson held the dumbbells using only his fingertips to further improve his grip strength.

Given his recent career developments, Johnson may have been particularly motivated to build leg muscle and strength prior to this particular workout.

The actor is currently starring in a DC Comics film adaptation. black adam. (Note: This film was released in the United States on October 21, 2022.) Johnson plays the eponymous antihero, who is endowed with extraordinary talents by God Almighty, including elements of super strength and super speed. This prerequisite of physical ability makes Johnson’s portrayal naturally (and accurately to the original) that of a dominant demigod, so to speak.

Likewise, Johnson’s overall background lends itself to a seamless commitment to fitness. The 50-year-old is a former WWE superstar (hence his nickname “The Rock”) and was a member of the University of Miami’s 1991 national championship team. He was a rotational defensive tackle and played alongside future Pro Football Hall of Famer Warren Sapp, among others.

From this perspective, Johnson’s subversion of leg training, which is grueling for most people, is nothing new. To become a shining star on the soccer field, in the squared circle, and on the silver screen, you need to train the same way.
